Travel Safe - 11 Travel Tips!

When traveling many things can and do go wrong. Following a few
simple rules could help prevent many of those problems fellow
travelers encounter on the road.

Problems that could mean you spend time:

· At the police station filling reports.

· Locked in your hotel room, scared it will happen again.

· Leaving with bad memories and a dislike of the local people.

· Replacing items lost, that can cost you lots of money.

· Or just totally annoyed, ruining your holiday.

So what can you do? Here are a few tips for staying safe and
still enjoying your holiday!

Common Sense

The single most important tool for traveling safe! You're in
foreign land, meeting new people, walking down strange roads,
eating and drinking new things. Use your common sense, if it
doesn't feel right - do something about it.

Carry Only What You Need

If you are heading out on the town to discover new bars or
taking photos at the local fish market, do you really need to
carry your passport, travelers cheques, excess cash, visa card,
American express card, plane tickets etc? Take what YOU need and
leave the rest in the hotel safe. Better to lose a little,
rather then everything.

Spread It All Out

A good tip is to place a small amount of money in a few
different bags/pockets. By doing this, if you happen to lose a
bag, visa card or money, you will still have something there to
keep you going until it can be resolved.

Two Credit Cards

Many couples traveling will have 2 credit cards, both accessing
the same account. The problem here is if one is lost, you have
to cancel the account, meaning the 2nd card is no longer valid.
So think about getting two cards, each accessing separate
accounts. If hubby loses his, the wife will still have a fully
functioning credit card so you can continue traveling.

Hold Your Bags and Cameras

A big thing now is bag/camera snatching. To prevent this
happening to you, make sure you wear the backpack on your back.
Sling your camera over your head and shoulder. Walk on the
pavement; motorbikes and cars can't drive here! If you leave
your bag/camera dangling of one shoulder, someone WILL grab it!

Empty Your Back Pockets

Most guys (and some girls) will place their wallets in the back
pocket of their jeans or shorts making them an easy target for
pick pockets. Change your habit, place money/wallets in the
front pockets or perhaps buy a bum bag (bags that strap around
your waist). Out of sight, out of mind!

Scams and Scams

We have all read about the different scams that people have
fallen for. Truth is, people continue to fall for them! Why?
Because the scammers are professionals, it's their job and their
good at it. In most countries, the local people will be kind,
courteous and helpful. Use your common sense. If unsure, leave.
Or try asking other travelers, locals or hotel staff for advice.

Their Smarter

One of the problems people have when traveling, is that they
think they are smarter than the scammers, robbers and pick
pockets. The sad reality is; your wrong, THEY ARE SMARTER!
Remember, these people do it for a living. This is how many of
them feed themselves and their families. They are pro's and very
good at their craft.

Lock it

If you use a small backpack or day bag when wondering the
streets or local markets, buy a small padlock and use it.
Instantly, would be pickpockets will be put of. If you are like
me and continually lose the keys, trying using a small
D-Shackle, like they use in rock climbing. It doesn't lock;
rather it acts as a deterrent for unwanted hands getting into
your bag. D-Shackles can be brought at most sport shops or large
supermarkets for just a few dollars

Opportunity Knocks

Many of the problems outlined above happen only when travelers
let their guard down. The basic rule of thumb is - you give them
the opportunity, they will grab it with both hands!

Enjoy

The most important aspect for any traveler, ENJOY your travels!
Being paranoid will have you locked in a hotel room. Prepare,
use your common sense and then get out there, meet the locals,
try the food and have fun.

Mexican legislators propose decriminalizing illegal immigration in

MEXICO CITY – Federal legislators from Mexico's ruling party have
introduced a bill to eliminate jail terms for illegal migration into
Mexico, saying they want to send a message that migrants should not
be treated like criminals.
The bill says illegal migrants should be fined instead of jailed.
Under Mexico's current law, enacted in 1974, illegal migrants can
face two to five years in prison, although authorities rarely impose
such penalties.

The bill also would reduce fines for migrants and the maximum amount
of time they can be detained by immigration authorities from three
days to 36 hours.
National Action Party legislators Jose Antonio de la Vega, Pablo
Alejo Lopez and Sergio Penagos say jail terms would remain for those
who pose a threat to national security and for any who commit a
crime.

"This is in response to the new reality" of migration, said Arturo
Magana, spokesman for the Mexican Congress. "We cannot be demanding
that the U.S. not criminalize migration and have this law here."

Magana said there is support for the bill across party lines in the
Mexican Congress, whose session ends Sept. 1. Legislators also are
discussing doubling jail time for people smugglers, who now face up
to 12 years in prison.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill in December that
would treat illegal migrants in the U.S. as felons and increase
penalties for first-time illegal entry to the country. The Senate
passed a measure in May, backed by President Bush, that would
increase border security and extend border fences, while also
establishing a path to citizenship for many of the estimated 12
million illegal immigrants in the United States. The two bills have
yet to be reconciled and in the meantime, Bush sent National Guard
troops to the border.

In a news release, the legislators said the bill should be
accompanied by Mexican government promises to treat illegal migrants –
the majority of whom are Central American – with respect.

Though Mexico demands humane treatment for its citizens who migrate
to the U.S., regardless of their legal status, Mexico so far has
provided few protections for migrants on its own soil, and human
rights activists say abuses against them are rampant.

The Mexican government acknowledges that many federal, state and
local officials are bribed by people-smugglers and that migrants are
particularly vulnerable to abuse by corrupt police.

The government-funded National Human Rights Commission documented the
abuses south of the U.S. border in a December report.

"One of the saddest national failings on immigration issues is the
contradiction in demanding that the North respect migrants' rights,
which we are not capable of guaranteeing in the South," commission
president Jose Luis Soberanes said.

The number of undocumented migrants detained in Mexico rose from
138,061 in 2002 to 240,269 last year. Forty-two percent were
Guatemalan, 33 percent Honduran and most of the rest Salvadoran.

So how do sunglasses work?

There are two reasons to wear sunglasses. The first reason is
if you don't like the bright sun shining in your eyes, as the
dark surface of the sunglasses helps to block out bright light
and make the world appear darker. The second is that the sun's
ultraviolet rays can be harmful in the long term, causing all
sorts of problems with your eyes including loss of eyesight and
eye cancer. Good sunglasses protect against this, as their
lenses filter out most of the harmful UV rays.

So how do sunglasses work? The darkening effect is a very simple
one: looking at the world through tinted lenses makes it seem
darker to you - even though the effect is really just an optical
illusion, it can help you if exposure to bright sunlight tends
to give you a headache or cause you to squint.

The UV-filtering effect, however, is more complex. UV-filtering
lenses are coated with special chemicals that allow light to
pass through them, but reflect away UV. UV rays are basically
high-frequency light waves, which means that the chemical
structure has to be built to deflect higher frequency light
while allowing through lower frequency light. This is difficult
science, and the materials needed to do it are expensive.

The most complicated sunglasses of all are prescription
sunglasses. These are sunglasses that not only protect from
light and UV, but also work like normal glasses to correct your
eyesight. For this to work, it requires that normal
vision-correction glasses are taken, tinted and coated with
UV-reflecting chemicals - a complicated three-step process.
However, all the ingredients work together flawlessly, to
produce sunglasses that are wearable by people who need their
vision corrected all the time. It is even possible to buy clear
tinted lenses that fit over the top of your normal glasses,
effectively a do-it-yourself way of making prescription
sunglasses.

Purchase a Timeshare for Your Dream Vacations

Investing in a timeshare is ideal for people who schedule
regular vacations. For a nominal fee, most timeshares let you
journey to other timeshares around the world over and above the
time your timeshare is available to you. If you select a
destination that you want to return to every year, you'll save a
lot of money as opposed to residing in hotels.

Purchasing a timeshare will provide you with a 1 or 2 week
resort, villa or estate that you can use every year or you can
exchange it with any other timeshare in your category around the
world. Write down all the destinations that you have discovered
or those you look forward to visiting. This will assist you in
locating the best timeshare location for you.

Now that you have decided purchase one for yourself, allow the
time to assess which timeshare would be best for you. Finding a
suitable timeshare for your vacation is not an easy task. There
are many types of timeshares and you will want to ensure your
money is spent on exactly what you want for a lifetime. Imagine
owing your dream vacation spot and having the means to hand it
down to your children. They will continue to enjoy your purchase
with their family for many years to come.

You must do your research to find a place that suits you. You
will want vacationing to be a pleasure not a chore. The first
step in the process is to find the perfect location that suits
your travel requirements. The number of rooms, amenities and
accessibility to local attractions are some important points to
be considered.

Start your research by defining your criteria. There are many
types of timeshares and fractional holiday programs to choose
between. Select a timeshare that matches your criteria and
budget. Ask if you will be allowed to rent it out. This will be
important if and when you find yourself unable to travel.

Many people save for years to take their dream vacation.
Unfortunately, this vacation becomes one of just a few they are
able to enjoy over a lifetime. By researching what timeshare
options are available and matching your selection to your
specific requirements, you will enjoy your dream vacation year
after year.

You'll want to use the Internet and the many books that are
available to inform you what to consider and what to bypass.
Your selection of the best property for you and your family that
is within your budget, will be critical for years of vacation
enjoyment.
